Easter Icon records seasonal hat-trick at Catterick

Yet another tremendous effort from the Jon Mitchell home-bred EASTER ICON, this time at Catterick, as the son of Sixties Icon recorded his third win of 2023 in the two mile, Class 6, all age handicap in the hands of West Ilsley’s very own George Bass.

EASTER ICON’S winning season began at Southwell in March and the four year old gelding has been a model of consistency all year with three placed efforts along the way.

For a horse whose comfort zone sees him rated in the mid fifties however, he’s a competitor who everyone at West Ilsley greatly admires, his trainer included.

“He just keeps turning up and clearly enjoys his racing. He rarely disappoints and he a real favourite here. He often faces the same opponents and they replay their own rivalries at tracks all over the country - he reversed the form with two at Catterick this time around for example - and although we all want them to be Saturday horses at glamour tracks, there’s a real sporting element to horses like Easter Icon.

“He keeps picking up his prize-money as well and four grand help, especially when he’s sent to take his chance at Catterick. He’s got a 100% record round there now, so might be seeing more of the place!”
