April’s kicked off with a weekend double for JCR and a strong Group 2 Placing
The first weekend in April saw a successful start to the 2025 flat season for team JCR with two winners and a Group 2 placing.
Saturday the 6th of April marked a second career success for Last Shamardal on only his third outing. The 3yo by Shaman was drawn 10 of 11 and faced a step up to 7 furlongs, but with an enterprising ride by George Bass, he was ridden out to lead within the final furlong and kept on gamely to score by a length on handicap debut for owner Jaber Abdullah.
Certain Lad made the trip overseas to Paris Longchamp on Sunday the 7th of April to take part in the Group 2 Prix d’Hardcourt. The gelding made a thrilling start to his 2025 campaign to finish a credible third in stiff company for owner Christopher Hirst. An encouraging starting point for the season and Jack hopes to head back overseas with him in the near future.
Ferrous made it four wins from six starts on the all weather in the ‘’Weekly £5 Free Bet With BetUK Class 2 Handicap’’ at Southwell on Sunday the 7th of April. The 5yo was up 4lb after his recent success at Lingfield Park and had the widest draw to overcome. He had to be dropped in off the pace by Jockey Callum Rodriguez, but he finished his race off strongly to nail another in-form rival.
Jack comments;
‘’I am delighted with all three runners this weekend. Last Shamardal is an improving sort that did very well to win from a shocking draw. I think we will continue to improve and will also get a mile in time.
Certain Lad ran a cracker. I think the winner could be top class. He wants the ground softer and when he gets his conditions I think he will be winning again.
Ferrous put in an immense performance to win from his draw. He’s a horse that seems to love the all weather and we will aim him at the Chipchase at Newcastle in June.’’
