A ‘Thriller’ of a Saturday
Saturday the 12th April was an extremely busy one for team JCR, sending out five runners and marking the start of our 2025 turf season. A team of four headed to our local track at Newbury where a mixed, but successful day was had.
Hey Boo took on a step up in class in Group 3 company for the first time in the Fred Darling. She put in a mighty performance to finish second on her first switch to the turf. An extremely pleasing performance from the 3yo filly whose future looks bright.
Urban Lion just hit the cross bar to finish second place in the Spring Cup. The 4yo by Zoustar took another step up in class after a 5lb rise from his recent success at Chelmsford. He kept on to press the winner late on and showed another promising performance.
The lucky last, Manila Thriller, finished the day off with a win on her seasonal debut in the Shipstones Fine Ales Fillies' Handicap at Nottingham. The 3yo Rumble inthejungle filly stayed on well over the final furlong to score her second career victory under jockey Kevin Stott for owners Richard Kent and Partner.
Jack comments;
‘’We were delighted with Hey Boo’s performance, she was still very green and the penny only dropped late. I think next time over a mile we will see a step up again.
Urban Lion ran a belter, we just feel the switch to the round course wasn’t ideal. I think on a straight track we will see even more improvement.
Delighted with Manila Thriller, she was game and ultimately saw it out well. I think she can keep improving through the handicap ranks.’
